Awards for Berkshire community groups helping the environment
Berkshire community groups carrying out conservation projects that benefit wildlife and people could receive £1000 in prize money to help fund their next venture.

The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust is running the bi-annual Dorothy Morley Conservation Awards for groups involved with activities that encourage community involvement in environmental projects.

Input into the new Local Nature Partnership for Berkshire

We are currently exploring the development of a Local Nature Partnership for Berkshire. As part of this development we want to go through an exercise of exploring ideas and discussing possible ways the partnership could function to benefit biodiversity and communities in Berkshire.

West Berkshire Living Landscape survey reports 2011

Survey reports for 2011 from the West Berkshire Living Landscape project are now available to view. The reports include the results of bird surveys, a report from wardens and the results of the Greenham Common visitor survey. The project area covers more than 27 square kilometres of lowland heathland, ancient woodland, reedbeds, rivers and streams. It is a mosaic of land rich with history and wildlfe.

Local Nature Partnership funding success for Berkshire

Berkshire Nature Conservation Forum (BNCF) has been successful in the application to Defra for funding to develop our existing partnership into one of a Local Nature Partnership. The funding will support capacity building, and as part of this we will be looking to work with a range of new partners (including business, health & wellbeing, access, local community groups) to create a new Local Nature Partnership for Berkshire.

Green Flag Community Award

Does your community, or a group you belong to, manage a publicly accessible green space? Would you like to see it and the people involved recognised for its quality? If so, you may be eligible to apply for the Green Flag Community Award. 
The Community Award (formerly the Green Pennant Award) is part of the same scheme which sets the standard for local authority parks and wildlife sites.  However, it is only given to sites which display the highest standards of maintenance, management and community involvement AND are managed by the community.

BNCF Conference summary

The BNCF conference, held on 11 June 2011 at Thames Valley Park, was attended by well over 50 people from various conservation related organisations in and around Berkshire, including bird clubs, local authorities and volunteer groups as well as the Environment Agency, Thames Water and BBOWT.  A range of excellent talks were given on the topic of habitat creation and restoration as well as the importance of evidence based conservation and these talks raised interesting questions and debate amongst the attendees.  As well as the presentations, a display of posters from a

A new guide to the Berkshire Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) has been produced to explain the role the plan plays in Berkshire, and how and why the Biodiversity Opportunity Areas (BOAs) have been identified. It features some interesting biodiversity facts about Berkshire's biodiversity and includes a list of ways in which you can help Berkshire's wildlife.
