International Year of Biodiversity
The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity. The aim of this declaration is to celebrate the diversity of life and raise awareness of the importance of our global biodiversity.
Safeguarding our biodiversity requires effort from everyone and International Year of Biodiversity encourages the global community – individuals, organisations and governments – to work together and take the immediate action needed to ensure a sustainable future for us all.
Events will be taking place across the UK throughout 2010 to:
- Increase awareness of the importance of biodiversity to our lives
- Highlight the continuing pressure faced by species
- Celebrate the successes achieved so far in conservation
Berkshire Nature Conservation Forum has signed up to the UK partnership. There are number of events planned in Berkshire throughout the year and many of these are included in our events calender! We are also planning some activities at Reading Museum and a wildlife survey that you can all help with - further information will be available shortly.
International Biodiversity Day is on May 22nd - why not put this date in your diary as a day to do something to help Berkshire's wildlife?
