The Berkshire Nature Conservation Forum is the local Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) delivery partnership, which covers the six Unitary Authorities of the Royal County of Berkshire, with the common interest in the conservation and enjoyment of the natural and historic environment of Berkshire.
Our aim is to maintain, restore and enhance those habitats and species that have been identified as priorities nationally and locally, tying conservation work undertaken in the county to the national targets.
An exciting new partnership led by the RSPB and Natural England has recently begun in the Berkshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire sites of the North Wessex Downs Area of outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), in a bid to help farmers and land managers boost key farmland bird species.
The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a grant to develop ‘green talent’ by providing training for those wishing to have a career in nature conservation. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund through its ‘Skills for the Future’ programme, the grant of £352,000 will enable the Trust to provide a total of 24 one-year work placements over 3 years for anyone wishing to get a foot on the nature conservation ladder.

This conference focused on the use of ecosystem services, potential methods for valuing these services and then went on to explore the potential for business involvement in the delivery of biodiversity targets.
As part of the International Year of Biodiversity, Berkshire Nature Conservation and Thames Valley Environmental Record Centre are working together to promote the recording of wildlife. Thanks to funding from Natural England a postcard has been produced asking for sightings of the following UK Biodiversity Action Plan species: Greater Stag Beetle, Bullfinch, Hedgehog and Slow-worm.
