Species Action Plans

Berkshire does not currently have Local Biodiversity Action Plan (LBAP) Species targets. At the present time the Berkshire Nature Conservation Forum (BNCF) partnership has made the decision to focus its conservation efforts on priority UK BAP Habitats and landscape-scale projects, such as the Biodiversity Opportunity Areas. These were seen as providing the largest gain from the partnerships limited resources and can also have a direct influence on the success on a variety of wildlife. There are also several projects which focus on species conservation in Berkshire, such as the Farmland Bird Project and the Sheepdrove Rare Butterfly Project

The revised list of UK BAP Priority Species was published in 2007 and now contains 1150 species, highlighted as priorities for conservation actions. If you have seen a UK BAP species or any other wildlife in Berkshire please do send your records to Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre and help add to our knowledge of these species.
