West Berkshire Living Landscape Project | Berkshire Biodiversity Action Plan

West Berkshire Living Landscape Project

On 28th March 2008, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) and West Berkshire Council signed the West Berkshire Living Landscape Project agreement. The project is on the edge of Newbury and Thatcham, covering more than 27 km2 and includes Greenham Common, Crookham Common and Thatcham Reedbeds (owned and managed by West Berkshire Council), and BBOWT’s  Bowdown Woods Nature Reserve.

The West Berkshire Living Landscape Project aims to protect, expand and enhance the landscape through community involvement, thereby promoting species diversity and richness of wildlife.  A mosaic of habitats are currently present include lowland heath, ancient woodland, reedbeds, rivers and streams.

Plans include providing greater space for wildlife and enhancing biodiversity, increasing and monitoring numbers of nationally and locally important species, development of an integrated land management plan, encouragement of people to become involved and positively influence their future landscape and provide advice to private landowners.

For information about this exciting project please see the BBOWT website.
